Passion is hard.

Updated: Aug 6, 2018

I found that my passion is empowering, motivating and inspiring others. Fitness and health is how I choose to deliver my purpose. Here’s the thing with passion. If we don’t have it I encourage you to find it because without it what is life really about? Let’s be honest, true passion is really hard. If you are lucky enough to understand your true purpose then you also understand there’s an undeniable and overwhelming pull towards it. It takes you away from the insanely loud microphone that out culture embodies. The one constantly telling us what we should do. It says go to work, get a retirement, collect benefits and put your head down and don't look up. Clock in and clock out, day after day year after year until so much time has passed you realize the shell of the person looking back at you in the mirror is lifeless and uninspired. That passion, the one that whispers to you is muffled by the blaring noise of the external microphone. The difference in my opinion is optimism. It is what separates the purpose driven life from the uninspired one. Pursuing your passion is hard. Passion often brings struggle, turmoil, pain and exhaustion. The mental strength to continue comes from the optimism that we choose within the daily struggle. Mental toughness is really found when shit doesn’t go right, but you continue to find an optimistic approach. You stay optimistic as you go against the grain, swim upstream , and ignore that external microphone. This is when you begin to break away and share your true self. Optimism is not weakness, it is the complete opposite. Optimism is not all rainbows, unicorns and butterflies. It is the power of persistence, even when it feels unbearably hard. Be optimistic enough to invite the failures in, and then be optimistic enough to see the abundant silver linings. After all failure is an action, failure is not an identity.

In the past I have allowed the noisy microphone of our culture to drown out my whisper. I’ve fallen prey to it more than once. But that doesn’t mean I won't continue to try again and again. What is your purpose? What is your passion? If you aren't 100% clear I encourage you to stop and shut out the external noise and truly invite the whisper in. Sit with it. Then try again, but maybe this time you decide to try with the strength of optimism. #tryagainandagain #passion #purpose #optimism #mypassionisfitness
